Computer Scientist / Software Engineer (f/m/div) 100% at Max Planck Digital Library
Requirements
- A M.Sc. or PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline
- Two or more years of experience in software engineering (e.g., professional software development in a team and/or open-source experience)
- Expertise in Python and C++
- Experience with code optimization
- Experience with scientific libraries and/or parallel / GPU programming
- Experience with DevOps-related frameworks (e.g., Docker, Ansible, Bamboo)
- Good scientific background and the ability to understand researchers’ goals
- Team player attitude
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
Scope of Work
You will work closely with the researchers and the scientists of the institute. You will help them to translate research prototypes into supportable software. You will also directly contribute to various projects in the areas of machine learning, computer vision, robotics, haptics, and more.
Responsibilities may include:
- Professional software design, coding, testing, and documentation
- Implementation of software solutions for research purposes
- Translation of research code into robust software (optimization, refactoring, etc.)
- Exploratory tasks (ok bet casino framework / library / programming language)
- Dissemination of good software practices (reviews, tutorials, workshops, etc.)
- Maintenance of software libraries and infrastructure
Benefits
The position will be located in the Tübingen site of our institute as part of the Software Workshop Team.
Salaries and contract will be based on previous experience according to the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD). This is a full-time position. The position is initially limited to two years with the possibility of a transition into a permanent position.

Die Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL) ist eine zentrale Serviceeinrichtung der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften e.V. (MPG). Ihre Aufgabe ist die Grundversorgung der Max-Planck-Institute mit elektronischen Publikationen sowie Publikationsdatenbanken und die Unterstützung der Institute bei der Schaffung digitaler und webbasierter Forschungsumgebungen. Dabei experimentiert der Bereich Digital Labs der MPDL mit zukunfstweisenden Technologien und etabliert davon ausgehend innovative Services für die Grundlagenforschung auf natur- und geisteswissenschaftlichen Gebieten.
